Cardinal Athletics Celebrates Title IX Week

Due to a last-minute change in our key note speaker’s schedule and impending weather for the week, the scheduled Title IX keynote speaker and history documentary showing for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. this week will be pushed to a later week this academic year.  When solidified, an update will be passed along.

Join Cardinal Athletics as they celebrate the impact that Title IX has had on athletics. As more details are confirmed, the schedule will be updated accordingly.

Nicole M. LaVoi, Ph.D. is a Senior Lecturer in the area of social and behavioral sciences in the School of Kinesiology at the University of Minnesota where she is the Director of the Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport

Big Sky Conference Commissioner

 

With more than a decade of experience as a conference commissioner, seven years in senior leadership positions for Power 5 athletic departments, six years as a Division I FBS athletic director, and numerous significant NCAA committee appointments to his credit, Tom Wistrcill is as experienced, connected, and prepared as anyone in intercollegiate athletics to navigate its ever-changing landscape and to usher in its modern era. Wistrcill graduated from St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minn., where he was a captain of the basketball team while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Media Communications. He later earned his Master of Arts in Educational Leadership with a focus in Athletic Administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., while interning with the University of Minnesota athletic department.

Editor-in-Chief, TennisONE App

 

Laura Sonday is the Editor-in-Chief of the TennisONE App, a year-round app for professional tennis with the mission of connecting fans globally to grow a sport that improves quality of life through cutting-edge technology and personal interaction. As Editor-in-Chief Laura’s focus is on generating plans to promote professional tournaments at home and abroad while supporting the TennisONE sales team with sponsorship commitments. She often travels to the sites of tournament partners for the duration of an event to fulfill contract obligations, create content, conduct player interviews, and build client relationships. The ultimate goal is the curate the best experience for tennis fans all over the world. Laura is a 2019 graduate of Saint Mary's University with a degree in marketing. While at Saint Mary's, Laura participated in tennis all four years.

Associate Account Executive, Sales and Service, Minnesota Wild

 

Taylor Pogreba joined the Sales and Service team for her first season in August 2021. A graduate of Saint Mary's University, Taylor earned her degree in Sport Business Communication. While attending Saint Mary's, Taylor was a member of the Cardinal women's hockey team. Her passion for people, business, and the game of hockey brought her to the Sales and Service team with the Wild. She is excited to share her passion for the State of Hockey with her ticket members. Prior to joining the Wild, Taylor spent her time volunteering with St. Paul Johnson Athletics with a heavy emphasis on game day operations. In her free time, Taylor enjoys spending time with family and friends. Taylor currently resides in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Sheila McGill B'97

Women's Soccer

Head Women's Soccer Coach, St. Thomas University

 

McGill has been on the Minnesota soccer scene as a prep and college player and youth, prep and college coach for 30 years. A former MIAC soccer player at St. Mary's from 1993-97, McGill was an assistant coach at St. Catherine from 2003-06. Her local coaching resume also includes four seasons as an assistant coach at Cretin-Derham Hall High School (1999-2002); five seasons as a head coach in White Bear Lake's youth soccer program, and eight seasons coaching for USYSA Region II and the state of Minnesota in the Olympic Development Program. Sheila is a 1997 graduate of Saint Mary's University where she majored in chemistry. While at Saint Mary's, she participated in Women's Soccer and Women's Hockey.
