Learn More About the Saint Mary's CAN Program

As a member of the Saint Mary’s Cardinal Admission Network, there are three distinct levels that you can choose from based on your availability. Each level has different time commitments and responsibilities; as well as associated perks for participating.

Members of the CAN Program provide a vital component: adding a much needed personal touch to the college admissions process. Here are some of the volunteer opportunities that CAN members can participate in:

Dropping Off Materials

If you are at high school events, sporting events, or community events and organizations, and find prospective students who are interested, feel free to give them the prospective student packet. This will include information about Saint Mary’s, scholarships, applying, and academics.

High School Visits

High school visits are a great way to meet prospective students at their schools, while also taking the time to meet the school counselors, principle, and/or teachers.

College Fairs

A college fair is an event organized and sponsored by a high school, a school district or a professional education association. College fairs are programs designed to introduce high school students to many different college opportunities. Students and parents browse from table to table, ask questions and pick up brochures. This may be the first opportunity for prospective students and their parents to receive information about Saint Mary’s.

Admitted Student Events

During the winter months, admitted students and their families are invited to gatherings hosted by the admission office and alumni in their local area. These are informal admitted student days that allow prospective students and their families to meet with admission staff, current students, current parents and alumni to learn more about Saint Mary’s. The purpose of these events is to introduce these prospective students to the Saint Mary’s Cardinal Family, while meeting people from their area.

Student Send-Offs

Held during the months of June, July or August. The purpose of the gathering is to introduce the students to the local Saint Mary’s community, make them feel welcome and inform them about what to expect during their first semester at Saint Mary’s.

Cardinal Referrals

As a CAN member, you are in a unique position to identify potential Cardinals from your community. They might be the sons or daughters of co-workers, friends or relatives, or the young women or men that you coached on sports teams, teach in school, or mentor.
