Chicago Zoom Conversation on Athletics
6:00pm on Thursday, November 12th

Brian Sisson is the athletic director at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, a position he has held since the start of the 2018-19 academic school year.

Brian will discuss how COVID-19 is impacting student athletes on campus.

He will also discuss future plans for athletics including completing the final phase of the outdoor track and soccer complex by constructing an attractive multi-functional facility with stadium seating, press boxes, restrooms, and training and meeting spaces. This athletic focal point will also be highly visible and utilized by campus visitors and guests. By upgrading our weight-lifting facility and renovating Gostomski Fieldhouse with a new track and netting, we are not only making it convenient and attractive for all students to maintain healthy lifestyles, we’re also equipping our student-athletes with the tools they need to be more competitive. Because we believe teams deserve a great place to play, we also believe Cardinal fans deserve the best seat in the house. New bleachers in the gymnasium would bring energy to athletic events, but the investment would also be utilized at commencements and other university and public events.

During his first two years, Brian has overseen a plethora of athletic initiatives, including:

2019-20 (Year 2):
• Mayo Clinic Health System Collaboration.
• Opening of new fastpitch softball locker room.
• Cardinal men's basketball earned their first MIAC post-season appearance since 1985 and recorded the program’s first post-season victory, while the Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team collected its first post-season victory since 2005.
• Cardinal student-athletes achieved a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher during the 2020 semester. Saint Mary’s also boasted 83 MIAC Academic All-Conference honorees, and both of the school’s Outstanding Seniors were student-athletes.
• Launched first-ever baseball/men’s hockey alumni golf event.

• Launched “Night in Nest” kickoff basketball event.

2018-19 (Year 1):
• Opened new Baseball Clubhouse.
• Inked a five-year apparel agreement with Under Armour and Universal Athletics.
• Launched the first Senior Send-Off graduation event.
• Initiated “From the AD's Chair” blog
• Rebranded and launched the Cardinal Excellence Fund, the official annual giving program for Saint Mary's Cardinal Athletics, formerly known as the Cardinal M Club.
• Created Cardinal Excellence Dinner.

Prior to his arrival at Saint Mary’s, Sisson spent the previous four years as Lewis University's associate director of athletics and director of external relations.  A native of Wheaton, Sisson spent two years serving as Benedictine University's assistant director of Athletics for Advancement from 2012-2014.  Prior to his stop at Benedictine, Sisson served as the promotions and ticket manager for Loyola University from 2007-2012.  Sisson and his wife Kaitlin have three children, son Landon and daughters Elin and Maren.
